We visited Tasmania towards the end of October 2023.

We travelled (from Canberra) in our car and arrived on the ferry in Devonport in the early morning.

We spent the first night at Coles Bay, beside the Freycinet Peninsula.  Next night was at Port Arthur, though we were there not for the penal settlement but for a sea cruise the next morning.  Then we went to Hobart where we attended a friend’s birthday party, which was the reason for the journey.  After Hobart we spent a couple of nights in Strahan and undertook a Gordon River cruise.  Next was Corinna for a couple of Pieman River cruises and then Arthur River for an Arthur River Cruise.    We went on to Stanley via the Tarkine Wilderness and then drove around in Northern Tasmania before catching the ferry on our last day.

I have been to Tasmania several times before but not visited the West coast much.  I went on the mid 1980s, mainly for the Overland Track and Walls of Jerusalem National Park.  In 1987 I went there photographing lighthouses, including Deal Island, Low Head, Eddystone Point, Tasman Island, Port Arthur (OK, not a lighthouse), Cape Bruny, Maatsuyker Is, Currie Harbour, Cape Wickham, and Cliffy IslandI also had a trip in 2017 including Overland track in Winter, Mount Field NP, Bruny Is and Wineglass Bay Sail Walk.  The route for that one is quite different from this time.
