18 January 2018, National Orchid Garden, Singapore Botanic Gardens, Singapore
.
We arrived in Singapore in the afternoon and headed for the National Orchid Garden in Singapore Botanic Gardens. The Orchid Garden is open until 7pm daily though the Botanic Gardens stay open until midnight.
.
Singapore has an efficient underground system called the MRT but there is currently no station near the Orchid Garden end of the Botanic Gardens so we caught taxis.
.
I’m not sure whether the orchids had name tags but if so I didn’t photograph those to record the names.
.
Earlier, the taxi driver from the airport to the hotel told us that the ownership of cars in Singapore was tightly controlled and that it costs $S15,000 to own one ($A15,000 or $US11,500).
.
Unlike most of the other countries in Asia, Singapore is definitely a developed country and lists on Wikipedia as 11th in the world for national income per capita. When that list is calculated at purxhasing power parity, it rises to second, behind Macao.
.
Singapore has a tropical climate with lots of rain. Orchids like these would not grow outside so readily in Canberra.
.
.
.
.
Though we were heading for dry Ladakh, we packed umbrellas specifically for Singapore. And we needed them. A section of the gardens during a brief downpour.

I love orchids. Thanks for the tour.
