Here we are heading from St Andrews Bay towards Moltke Harbour. This is taken from the Bridge and the window is covered in water (as you can see if you look closely or click for a larger image). This means that in the open ocean, waves have been breaking over the bow onto that window. We are now in a sheltered sea, though.

This image and the following seven show the majestic power of the wild South Georgia landscape, the high jagged mountains covered with snow rising up out of the sea, the banks of fog and cloud, and the mist rising from the sea.

Now we have landed. We are onshore at Moltke Harbour.

I went for a long walk up the valley towards the hills.
There were a group of king penguins beside the river on the way back.

Nearby there were three fur seals, perhaps two females and a pup, amusing themselves in the shallows of the river.

I am on my way back with a view of the beach. There are many people and zodiacs at the left hand end of the beach, though also a few people at the mouth of the river. one zodiac is heading back towards the ship. It looks like I have enough time to get back. Click the image if you want to see more detail.

I’ve been thinking I need to hunt your blog down – we don’t coincide so much recently because of the time zones. The third pic is my favorite – despite the presence of multiple penguins further down – it is sooooo vast, and I love the way you’ve got just the one bird in the foreground just at the right place.

Yes, the scale of the is so epic and it’s so wild and unforgiving, you can probably only capture a hint of that in a photograph.
You were saying earlier you don’t get notifications any more. Perhaps the simple solution is just to subscribe again.

I think it’s just that with the timing of when you blog and when I read I’m missing you. I don’t do the email-me thing. I just have to make a point of checking your blog every few days!

I changed from nocturnal to diurnal after I came back from the last trip, so that could be a factor.
