Day 68. 5th September. Dyrhólaey, Vik, South Iceland.
.
This is what can happen when you let someone else use your camera. Sitting around in the camping ground common room in the early hours of thew morning, this is Fréderic and myself. Unintended, but somehow I quite like it. It’s a bit like the days of film where you might fire off a few images at the start of a roll to ensure you had gone past the part exposed in the loading, and sometimes saw unexpected results.
.
Next morning, we are on the road again. This is a couple of farms just outside Vik.
.
We went to Dyrhólaey again.
.
These are taken from the top of the cliff, looking down at waves and foam on the black sand beach, as with some of the images from the previous night.
.
One reason I returned was that I wasn’t sure that my slow shutter speeds in the low light of the previous night were either slow enough or fast enough for the conditions there.
.
As it turned out, I probably had more come out then than I thought – but in the morning, conditions were different anyway.
.
Another reason was that there was more to see up there, as we shall see in due course…
.
Léa on the headland.
.
In the background is Eyjafjallajökul, the volcano that erupted in 2010 and caused lots of disruption to flights through Europe by the clouds of volcanic ash.
.
.
Eyjafjallajökul in the background again.

.
This is the lighthouse we caught a glimpse of in the first post of the previous day.
.

Yes I was entranced by the graphic possibilities from the top of the cliff. One other photographer came up to me and asked me what I was doing with my long lens and tripod.
