Day 67. 4th September. Dyrhólaey, Vik, South Iceland.
.
Here we are heading for Dyrhólaey, a small peninsular with rugged coastline and a black sand beach. It is straight ahead and a bit to the right. There is also a lighthouse on top of the cliffs at the far right. We will see a closer view of that in the next post.
.
I came from Skaftafell, where I picked up three French hitchhikers who would be with me for a couple of days and was staying the night at Vik. Dyrhólaey is just past that.
All these images are taken from the cliffs at Dyrhólaey at around sunset, or just after.

Looking down on a black sand beach.
.
I was fascinated by the patterns in the black sand as the water washed in and out.
.
.
.
These are also from the top of the cliffs, looking at the water surging onto the rocks and washing out again.

.
Looking in a different direction, now west, at the gleaming foam on the black sand beach.

Here we are going out, with the last of the light, looking towards where the sun had gone down. Straight ahead is the road we had come in on. At the end of that black corridor is where I took the first photograph in this post.
