5th March – Patagonia (Helsingfors/ Lago Azul)

Up again at 6am to take photos at dawn from the boatshed.

Horse and gate in pre-dawn light. (Half an hour before sunrise).

Fifteen minutes before sunrise

Ten minutes after sunrise

Early morning, after dawn. Probably Co. Huemules

Today Martiniano overcome our misgivings and persuaded us to travel to Lake Azul on horseback rather than on foot. Just as well he did. We would never have made it carrying our heavy photographic packs on foot. Lake Azul is a spectacular tarn (glacial lake) with the glacier perched above it.

.

Lago Azul. Glacial lake with glacier.

You may have to click on the image above to see this in a larger view, but there are a couple of branches with bright yellow-orange leaves, above the “C” in “Copyright”.  Whole antarctic beech forests in Patagonia turn bright yellow to red in late autumn.  We were unfortunately a little too early to see this.

.

Peak above Lago Azul, directly above the glacier as it zigzags down.

You can see this peak in the previous image, just below where some leaves hang down towards the left.

Google Map reference (green arrow shows where the photo was taken).
