It’s amazing how quickly conditions can change in the Outback.
One moment it’s quiet and peaceful and the next menacing and apocalyptic. One moment seems almost normal and then you are swamped by the after-effects of an accidental nuclear explosion at Pine Gap. You’ll never read about that in the media though. And then there’s the time warp bubbles. One moment you can be centuries ago when the colours were all different and the next in a post-apocalyptic wasteland or in a world where everything has strangely renewed following the Great Melting.
For the Outback, all this is quite normal.

This suddenly reminded me of a comment made years ago by a friend’s young daughter. She asked him if he was alive when the world was black and white.
