Havana, Cuba, 9 September 2016

Late in the afternoon, we went for a drive in a horse and carriage. This is our driver. Subsequent images, except for the last one, were taken from the carriage as we ambled along.
.
1950 Chevrolet convertible.
.
Ford Model A Roadster, 1927 to 31 (wheels smaller than original).
.
1958 Plymouth.
.
There’s the centre of town with historic buildings and impressively maintained tourist-taxi convertibles and a little bit further out it’s a little bit more ramshackled. By the stonework though, this building may be quite old.
.
Cuba is more socially advanced than most of the developed West in that people may sit around and talk, rather than being glued to televisions, videos and smart phones.
.
Waiting not for Godot but for the bus.
.
Some remarkable buildings. Flats perhaps.
.
The advantage of taking photographs from a horse and carriage is that people are generally quite unconcerned and oblivious as you slowly pass by.
.
Street corner and bus stop.
.
I think the signs at the left are saying “This is where you can board pedal-powered public transport but they’re not allowed to park”. And then there’s the upper floor.
The building on the right has a distinctly Moorish influence in the architecture and the arches remaind us of what we were to see on a later trip on the outside of the Mesquita in Cordoba.
.
Moving on a little further with a variety of people going about their day.
.
I think this building is like a work of art and the people are part of the art exhibit.
.
Tuk tuk driver and El Capitolio in the background.
.
Friendly locals.
.
1953-54 Ford Mercury.
.
1955 Chevrolet Belair.
.
Singer Gazelle 1957-59, a rare British car in Cuba.
.
Relaxing on the verandah.
.
A crumbling façade.
.
Looking down side streets as we pass gives glimpses of everyday lives.
.
.
.
.
This is the kind of carriage we were in, maybe not the actual one.

Thanks very much Thom. Yes, I like the feel of reality and it’s almost as if you’re invisible.
