Day 63. 31st August. Reyðarfjörður to Hofn, East Iceland.
.
The coast looking towards Stöðvarfjörður. Pin #1 on the map (following).
.
The day’s travel was from Reyðarfjörður to Hofn. Numbers for pins on the map correspond to particular images.
.
Probably somewhere near Breiðdalsvik.
.
Djupivogur at around 6pm. This is mid to late afternoon since sunset is nine or ten. Not significantly changed in post-production. Just an extremely dark sky.
.
.
Pin #5.
.
This image and the next four are at Pin 6-10.
.
.
.
.
Clearly a petrified dinosaur or a marine reptile in the sand. Perhaps a short-necked pliosaur such as Kronosaurus.
.
Lots of spectacular vistas along the coast. Pin 11.
.
.
Pin 13.

.
By now I have reached Hofn and proceeded to a wetlands area in a peninsula just south of it. This is why there are two pins on the map at Hofn. This one and the next five images are from that area.
.
Finally, the dockside at Hofn.
.
You have been a busy bee Murray – I can see me sitting down with a large Malt and exploring all the images you have recently posted.
‘towards Stöðvarfjörður’ I especially like; it sums up my impression of Iceland and according to my daughter, is a place I should visit and spend some time exploring.
You have just added to that, it is probably the only place that will get me back on an aeroplane when I stop working in the next 18 months or so.
David.

I also like ‘towards Stöðvarfjörður’ the best. Kinda like the sky I drove home from this afternoon.

You wouldn’t get much actual rain where you are I would think though.
It’s wonderful when you see it, the boundary between the deluge and the mist and the light peeking through….

It was very wet in the first half of that day and I would either have taken that first image in a brief break in the weather or when it was still raining.
Well it’s not that far from where you’ll be and Iceland is a wonderful country for landscapes. There’s just so much there and so varied in different weather conditions. Definitely a place you could keep coming back to.

Thanks very much Michael. The top image is an illustration of the adage that sometimes the best images come from the worst conditions….
