Nearing the end of our North Queensland trip and with a day in Cairns, we decided to spend much of it at the nearby Fitzroy Island. I had previously visited here in 1987 as I travelled around Australia photographing lighthouses and you can see a couple of images and a few comments from that time here. We didn’t visit the lighthouse this time though.

This was probably taken from the ferry as we came in to dock.
View from the shore (also the next one).
There is very little of facilities on Fitzroy Island apart from the Resort (built 2010) which is only available if you are staying there. We just availed ourselves of a couple of short walks.
We are heading off now on the “Secret Garden Walk”.
Next, we headed of on a walk to Nudey Beach, no longer a nude beach. We turned around at this viewpoint.
From almost the same spot, what looks like an island in the distance is a headland on the mainland.
As we headed back on the ferry, we passed this fishing boat.
A series of long telephoto views of the coast from the ferry.
There are some impressive rock formations along this coast.
Rocky Island and Reef.
Looks like a World War II emplacement.
Cairns.
