We drove from where we were staying in Cape Tribulation down the Queensland coast to Kuranda, near Cairns.
Before we left, I paused to take some photographs of the lily pond near our front door.
Still in Daintree, we stopped for a while at Cow Bay, further down the coast.
Mangroves at a Cow Bay stream.
Matted debris above the high tide mark.
Looking up on the Jindalba Boardwalk.
From Cow Bay, we returned inland to the horrendous Daintree Discovery Centre. We had previously visited it and decided it was just a facile tourist trap but we thought perhaps it might be a good place for a coffee. We found however that the café didn’t even have real coffee, just instant. Fortunately, the Jindalba boardwalk in the rainforest was nearby.
Bark and lichen.
Looking down at a small rapids.
Two hours later, we have driven about fifty kilometres down the coast, past Port Douglas. This is the view from Rex Lookout.
From the same viewpoint with a longer lens, Double Island in front and Yarrabah Peninsula south of Cairns in the background.
We stopped of at a point just north of Palm Cove because I thought there might be good views there. Unfortunately it was built up and the only good views were from grandiose private houses. This is a snippet from there though.
.
Next we stopped off at Palm Cove, hoping to get afternoon tea there but found it overdeveloped and tacky so we gave up on that idea. We did visit the north end of the beach there though.
This is Double Island from the other side.
Another two hours later and we have reached Kuranda, where we were to stay for the night. This is the top of Barron Falls.
If you click on this image for a larger view, you can see the cable for the Skyrail on the other side of the gorge. Next morning, we drove the twenty minutes from Kuranda to the Skyrail Terminal, came back to Kuranda by the Skyrail (cablecar) and returned later in the day on the narrow gauge scenic train.
Rainforest on the walk to the lower viewpoint.
Views of Barron Falls.
Once a mighty cascade but reduced to a trickle by a hydroelectric dam.
Still a huge torrent in the wet season but we were not there then.
Further on to another lookout with Cairns in the distance.
