I have to experiment with IR. Is it something I can do with an IR filter on my digital camera?

Yes, you can but you’ll need to use a tripod and with a DSLR, you’ll need to use live view, or compose and focus and then put the filter on. There’s a lot to do in post-processing, though. Here’s an article on that: https://photographylife.com/reviews/kolari-vision-550nm-infrared-filter

It’s a consequence of shooting in infrared and the processing I use. Colours and tonality are different from a normal image. For the first two, the skies were close to black in the colour versions. Maybe you could get it with a normal image by changing the colour and density of the sky in Photoshop (nit Lightroom) before B&W conversion. I don’t know, I haven’t tried that.
