Abstract Australia

18 January 2018, Over Australia and Singapore

.

This is the first post of my recent Ladakh trip.  I will maintain a list of links to these posts in the Ladakh Itinerary post.

We took off for Singapore from Canberra via Sydney.  We were on a new Singapore Airlines jet and I had a window seat from Sydney.  Usually, you look out the window occasionally and are surprised as to where you are.  In this case though, I had a potentially 360 degree external view on the console on the back of the next seat, so I was able to keep an eye on that and see where interesting views might be cominbg up.

This is Lake Burragorang, in the lower Blue Mountains west of Sydney.  It is a man-made lake forming part of Sydney’s water supply and the water is held back by Warragamba Dam.

An hour and a quarter later, we are over South Australia and there are salt lake beds out the window.

I can’t tell you with any accuracy where the views are but the plane flew along a line between Lake Torrens and Lake Eyre.

It’s an hour and twenty minutes since the last image and we are now over Western Australia.

Probably farmland.  There are some roads now.

Nearly three hours later now.  Not much to photograph over the Indian Ocean and then the clouds were often too thick to see through.  This is the coast of Sumatra.

Islands between Sumatra and Singapore, likely part of Indonesia.

Perhaps this one is part of Singapore.
