Day 59. 26th August, Akureyri to Aldeyjarfoss, Iceland (Northeast).
.
Along the way from Goðafoss to Aldeyjarfoss was an idyllic Icelandic farm.
.
Aldeyjarfoss is along a side road along the 842. After Aldeyjarfoss the 842 turns into the F26 which is a serious four wheel drive road that leads through the highlands to the other side of Iceland. Even the 842 was demanding in places, sometimes steep with lots of loose gravel. It would probably be impassable to two wheel drive vehicles after rain.
Aldeyjarfoss is quit a different waterfall to Goðafoss. It has a drop of about twenty metres but what makes it remarkable are the numerous basalt columns which we will see more of in following images….

Thanks very much Jane and Happy New Year! It’s fairly remote this one; not many people get there.

It’s an amazing waterfall. Astonishing enough, it is also endangered by dam building plans in the high lands.

Hard to imagine they could do that. It’s such a special place.
