The infra reds translate well into monochrome but some I prefer as the infra red particularly the one using the leaves as a frame. Interesting idea a monochrome sunrise Murray.

Yes, I think that’s right. It’s better to look at monochrome and colour in isolation, though.
Not so much in this case, basically a yellow to orange sunrise, but sometimes sunrise and sunset shots can work particularly well for monochrome conversion because there can be a variety of saturated colours to convert to different tonal values.

I’ve been so enamoured with colour for so long I haven’t given mono a thought particularly where sunrises and sunsets are concerned. Just starting to see the ‘purity’ that can come with a good B&W shot and starting to play . . . . .

In the film days, when everyone else was printing black and white, I decided I was only interested in colour so I shot slides and printed Cibachrome. In those days there were very few people who really knew how to produce a good mono print. These days with digital I have become much more interested in mono and it’s much easier to obtain high quality results. It’s definitely a different world.
